The Matcha Commission
project start: October 2023

Uncompromising in every aspect
-
After this 3.2 Coupe rolled off the production line in 1986, it spent the last 38 years indulging in the slow and sweet life of southern France. These times are over, as this 911 is now being reborn as an uncompromised road-legal racecar. The last connection left to its life in France might be its newly gained ability to race in Le Mans.
The owner of this special project had carefully scouted the entire universe of 911 builds and decided that Build2Sample’s origin, my Oslo Blue 911 S/T, suited his idea of a perfect dream build the best. Having this car as a benchmark, the vision became clear – how can we make it lighter, faster, more dynamic, and even more bespoke? As the choice of color was made very early on with Auratium Green, the name Matcha Commission followed naturally.

If the visuals of this commission don’t speak for themselves, the engineering that went into it will make your head turn for sure. Targeting a weight of under 950 kg (≈ 2100 lbs.), every single piece had to be picked carefully while still making no compromise to the visual appeal of the car. Carbon-Kevlar bumpers, fenders, engine lid, hood, and even doors not only account for a lot of the weight loss, but also lower the center of gravity significantly. Lightweight rotors, full magnesium wheels, and aluminum calipers target a crucial factor in handling that is oftentimes not addressed in street cars, the unsprung and rotational mass. Combined with upgraded and fully adjustable KW V3 suspension, enhanced steering, a custom pedal box, and purpose built axles, the Matcha Commission feels even better than it looks.
Underneath the engine lid hides a completely rebuilt and upgraded 3.2l engine. Individually casted pistons and camshafts, 48mm PMO racing carburetors, airflow optimized cylinder heads, and a few more special adjustments have turned this powertrain into a 285 hp beast with an incredibly usable torque curve and an induction noise that makes your hair stand on end.

The Matcha Commission truly embodies the derivative of my Oslo Blue S/T. This 911 is extremely capable while still being able to make the split between a reliable grand tourer and a full-blood race car. The lightweight concept fully falls into line with Build2Sample’s aspirations, while the research and development that has gone into reducing unsprung and rotational mass lay the groundwork for future projects. Matcha sets new standards for what a 911 backdate can achieve, both visually and dynamically.
